Selena Gomez is an actress, singer, songwriter and spokesperson who became famous from her role as Alex Russo on The Disney Channel's hit series, Wizards of Waverly Place.
Gomez was born in New York City, New York, USA on July 22, 1992. Her birth parents are Ricardo Gomez and Mandy Cornett. Selena Gomez is an only child and was named after the famed Tejano singer Selena.
Gomez's mother is a former stage actress who gave birth to Selena at the age of 16. Selena's father is from Mexico and her mother is half Italian. Although born in New York Selena was raised from a very young age in Grand Prairie, Texas by her mother and grandmother. Selena's parents divorced in 1997 when she was 5 years old. Her mother, now Mandy Teefy, re-married in 2006 to Brian Teefy.

Selena Gomez Music
Selena has a bright future in the music industry. She already has several tracks from movie soundtracks and television with an album credit to her name. In July of 2008 Gomez struck a recording deal with Hollywood Records.
Selena has said she is not interested in a solo career and prefers to be in a band, which is currently Selena Gomez & The Scene. Along with perfecting her singing, Selena is learning how to play the guitar, drums and piano.
Outside of her own music, Selena has said her favorite band is Paramore and she loves to sing Rockstar by Hannah Montana
